Ethnic and Eclectic

Wild and unpredictable—but in a good way, would define the “Ethnic and Eclectic” group. The jewelry is audacious, exotic, and daring. You'll find fossils, such as orthoceras and ammonite, “caged” in silver wire. There's liberal use of bone, shell, coral, amber, and agate, (to mention a few), highlighted with sterling beads, chains, and Silver Art Clay. Bright, contrasting colors and textures prevail, and just when you think the end result is going to be primitive and raw, an unexpected element of refinement emerges.

Through a series of events, I was blessed to receive some exciting beads from a mutual friend of the late helen dietze, (the lower case used in her name was deliberately her choice). Helen was a famous artist/beader/teacher who traveled the world and collected unusual stones, and beads. Look for some of her vintage glass, trade beads, and carved jades in my “Ethnic and Eclectic” pieces. More than the beads themselves, however, I appreciate helen's gems of genius: Her view of universal harmony, her vast knowledge of color and light theories, and her stories and historical contexts woven into her massive necklaces. She also made the distinction between the qualities of value and worth, choosing what she loved—not by the price, but by the message, character, and intrinsic beauty. Thank you, helen, for your multi-faceted gifts.

So, make a ferocious, fashionable statement with an “Ethnic and Eclectic” adornment.

And whatever you do, don't ever, ever, be “catty!”
