I remember as a young girl, the terrific trips our family took to the National Parks. Dad would arrange several weeks off for vacations, carefully pencil in the mileage and destinations on accordion-folded maps, and we'd set out to explore those gorgeous “post-card” places throughout the country. My folks were so compassionate and inclusive, that often our trailer treks extended beyond the immediate family, to involve other relatives and friends in our great adventures.
Caverns, mountains, deserts, and valleys,—all of them held such magnificent geographical and geological secrets, awaiting our discovery. At times, we were rock hounds, and although those memories are faint, I still have moments when I feel an instinct to just go dig in the earth, gloveless,...somewhere. “Royal Rock Garden” pays homage to the unadulterated beauty frequently found just below the dusty surface— in fossils and geodes, crystals and semi-precious stones. Unfortunately, Dad never got to see the jewelry I make, but I think he'd be pleased that the nuggets and boulders we once enjoyed together have impacted my life with such sweet memories. After all, we're all “rock stars” at heart!
